FIBA World Championship Men 2010
The FIBA World Championship is a world basketball tournament for men's national teams that is held quadrennially by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The World Championship gold medal is considered to be just as prestigious as the Olympic Basketball Tournament gold medal. The champion team wins the Naismith Trophy, which was first awarded in the 1967 tournament.

The tournament structure is similar, but not identical to that of the FIFA World Cup; both of these international competitions have been played in the same year since 1970. A parallel event for women's teams, the FIBA World Championship for Women, is also held quadrennially, in the same year as the men's event, but in a different country.

News of FIBA- GROUP A:
KAYSERI (2010 FIBA World Championship) – After an easy win against Angola on day 1, Serbia will now face a tough challenge against a German team that lost a game in the final seconds against Argentina.

Led by Aleksandar Rasic, who shot 6-7 from three point range, Serbia dominated Angola by 50 points and they will need his shooting touch against a tough German team.

Also their strong showing in the paint will be put to the test against a German front line that outrebounded the Argentinians.

After a heartbreaking loss against Argentina, now the Germans need to forget that and make adjustments to get their first win in the tournament. Poor shot selection and ball handling in the final minutes was key in their loss.

The Germans have shown a more aggressive offensive attack led by their guards Demond Greene (who visited with FIBATV.Com after the game) and Steffen Hamann. Their ability to penetrate also gives their big men good shots from short, mid and long range. Jan Jagla will surely be a factor for the Germans in the upcoming matches.

Serbia doesn’t have their point guard Milos Teodosic and everyone took the responsibility to stick to their plays and do the extra pass in order to get a better shot. After an impressive first showing, now this young team will be put to the test in the FIBA World Championship.

Jordan will open the day after losing by one point against Australia. The brilliant team play and clutch shooting by Zaid Abbaas and Rasheim Wright wasn’t enough to defeat Australia who used their strength inside to get the win.

Now they face an Angolan team who were crushed by Serbia, but know their chances in the group if they start winning today. Angola showed good perimeter shooting but didn’t score well inside and didn’t get enough trips to the free throw line, which will be important today.

Finally Argentina will face Australia, two teams that got their wins down to the wire on day 1.

Argentina came into the team with strong play from their towers, Luis Scola and Fabricio Oberto, while Pablo Prigioni did a masterful job playing the point guard position.

Carlos Delfino also helped the team, not only scoring but by also sharing point guard duties and creating opportunities for his offense. Bench players like veteran Leo Gutierrez and rookie guard Luis Cequeira maintained their level of play and even helped the team pull away in the third quarter.

Australia also has strength in the paint, but needs a better offensive output from their guards, especially from Patrick Mills who didn’t have his shooting touch on day one and Brad Newley who reacted in the second half in their win against Jordan.

A quick 2-0 start is what both teams want, especially Australia who will face Germany on day 3.
